Personally, I have been more stressed than I have ever been because of the pandemic and having to adjust to the ups and downs around me due to COVID. I have also noticed the same in many of my peers and even people I meet for the first time. This project is a way to show myself and people around me that sometimes we do need a break from reality and our busy lives and to just take a moment to breathe and be in tune with our minds and bodies.

Starting off with the mindset of creating one generalised space, I realised after receiving different opinions and views on how people relax, relaxation in general is quite subjective. Therefore by creating unique spaces for individual people, it is interesting to see whether the hypothetical spaces they created in their heads ends up being relaxing or not to them. By mimicking the feel of a “relaxing” and happy atmosphere, I captured the reaction of three different people and therefore reflected upon these reactions.

Designing and setting up these prototypes allowed for a reflection on what is considered relaxing and how to enhance the feeling of relaxation, especially with everything going on in the world now. The outcome is both further research to create a deeper understanding of how people relax as well as finding out whether or not creating this particular space would be successful in the end.
